Audi A8 Prices & Reviews

Audi A8
Supporting the four-ringed Quattro symbol as the flagship model is the 2010 Audi A8. It offers a blend of power, space, luxury, and comfort that is truly remarkable.

Propelling this massive luxury sedan is Audi’s faithful 350-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8, mated to a smooth six-speed transmission that delivers power to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system. EPA rates this package at 16 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway. Audi uses a smaller V-8 than the more expensive BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class, and thus its power numbers are lower, but it beats out the Mercedes in the dollars-per-horsepower comparison.

The Audi A8 provides an interior fit for a king, or at least a duke. There is enough legroom for a six-foot tall person to stretch out in the front seat and another six-foot tall person to sit in the spacious back seat. A 14.6 cubic foot trunk offers more storage space than the BMW 7 Series or Acura TL. A power glass sunroof, premium leather on all seats, and heated twelve-way power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats are the definition of luxury and comfort. Alloy and wood trim all around the interior is sleek, while a 255-watt 14-speaker Bose surround sound system makes you feel like you have front row seats at the concert hall. Functional features like a rearview camera and a navigation system are also standard. Other features like heat for the rear seats, a blind spot warning system and lane departure warning system are optional.

Audi’s MMI multimedia interface lets you control the air suspension, radio, and other electronic features with the twist and push of a dial. MMI is considered one of the better multimedia systems, and probably the best from a German carmaker in terms of user-friendliness.

The skeleton of the 2010 Audi A8 is the largest sedan-rendition of the German automaker’s advanced lightweight aluminum-alloy space frame. The biggest airbag offering you can find is tucked away inside; dual front, two-row head, and dual front- and rear-side airbags. There are no government crash test ratings for the 2010 Audi A8, but even the smaller A4 receives Five-Star ratings across the board, and this is a bigger, stronger version of the same chassis design philosophy – with more airbags.

Audi’s Electric Car Gets Even Hotter

Audi’s Electric Car

The German automaker unveiled the second iteration of its sweet electric concept here at the North American International Auto Show. It is sleeker, simpler and less powerful than the concept first seen at the Frankfurt auto show in September and then at the Los Angeles show last month. But it looks less like a concept designed to wow journalists and more like a production car designed to attract buyers.

That sound you heard was Elon Musk and Henrik Fisker screaming in anguish. The Audi e-tron could unseat the Tesla Roadster and Fisker Karma as the sexiest EV on the road when it appears in 2012.

Version 2.0 is leaner and more aggressive than the first e-tron, which looked a lot like the R8, and draws styling influences from the TT and the S5. The proportions are spot-on: the car is 70 inches wide, 154.72 inches long and 48 inches tall.

Audi has radically simplified the drivetrain, opting to put two motors at the rear axle instead of one at each end. That means the car no longer has all-wheel drive. The motors are liquid cooled and rated at 75 kilowatts (about 102 horsepower) apiece. The first version produced 313 horsepower. Look for a zero to 100 km/hr time of 5.9 seconds, which is about one second slower than v1.0 and two seconds slower than the Roadster. It’ll need another 5.1 seconds to get from 100 km/hr to 120 km/hr.

The car rides on an aluminum and carbon fiber space frame, and most of the body panels are fiber-reinforced plastic. Audi claims the car weighs 2,976 pounds — about 550 pounds less than the first e-tron — and has a weight distribution of 40:60. Torque-vectoring directs power to the rear wheels as necessary for optimal traction. Flaps at the C-pillar open and close as needed to provide cooling air for the motors and battery.

Audi e-tron

Audi unveiled a second compact electric car concept in Detroit that's similar to one unveiled in Frankfurt and Los Angeles a few months ago, which is also called the e-tron. Audi is using the e-tron name as a sub-brand, similar to how it uses "Quattro," that will be applied to a number of different vehicles. The Detroit e-tron is smaller and lighter than the previous e-tron weighing in at just under 3,000 pounds. Two electric motors on this rear-wheel drive vehicle produce a combined 204 hp. With the aluminum body and coupe design, Audi claims it can go 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds.

The lithium-ion batteries are located behind the passenger compartment and in front of the rear-axle of this two-seater, which helps save energy and allows a possible driving range of 155 miles. Another energy saving feature is the use of a heat pump, which heats up and maintains the interior temperature.

Audi's e-tron Design Concept To Become The New R4

R4
The trimmer, lighter, considerably less red Audi E-tron electric-car concept shown here in Detroit is a preview of the company's upcoming production midengine sport coupe, according to sources at Audi of America.
Oh, you know, the company will replace the carbon-fiber with metal for the body panels, of course, and there isn't a chance in hell that those billion-spoke chrome rims are going to see the road. But the basic shape of the car is indicative of what we'll see in a couple of years as the R4. We've reported on the R4 program before, but this is the first time Audi has presented any styling hints.

2010 B&B Tuning Audi TT RS

The German-based tuning specialist B&B has released a special programme for the amazingly powerful Audi TT RS coupe. Direct successor of the legendary ”Ur-Quattro”, the new TT RS sports coupe is now charged with even higher power output – 450 horsepower and 640 Nm of torque. With this performance data, the Audi TT RS accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 3,7 seconds flat and to 200 km/h in just 14,2 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 300km/h.

B&B tuning is offering the power upgrade in 4 engine stages. In Stage 1, the vehicle receives only modified electronics and 0,2bar increased boost pressure, which raises the engine performance to the striking 410 hp and 560 Nm of torque at the reasonable price of 1950 Euro. Thanks to a 0,25bar increased boost pressure and new adapted electronics, Stage 2 reaches 425 hp and 595 Nm for at a price of 2950 Euro.

In Stage 3, the TT RS coupe benefits from a special race exhaust system with a metal catalyst and a change to the electronic code field. The engine data rises to 442 hp and 625 Nm of torque at the price of 8.950 Euro. To reach the final performance of 450 hp and 640 Nm of torque, the B&B engineers have fitted the refined car with a high performance charge-air cooler manufactured specially for the Audi TT RS, which possess bigger volume, more effective flow and larger surface. Stage 4 is price tagged at 12.950 Euro.

To handle the increased power data, B&B is offering several chassis modifications, for example 20mm lower sport springs or adjustable thread chassis. Furthermore, the Siegen auto specialist is offering wheel sets in 19 and 20-inch, 4, 6 and 8-stroke braking systems as well as short shift adaptions.

Audi A5 Sportback

Audi A5 Sportback: on sale now

Actually based on the A4 saloon, the four-door car has a sloping rear profile lending it a coupe-esqe look. Its "unusual hatchback design" is claimed by Audi to be "emblematic of the vehicle's excellent functionality"'.

The luggage volume of 480 litres nearly equals that of the A4 Avant, expanding to 980 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Audi shows off the Sportback

Audi-Sportback-A7-1

Audi's display may not have any new cars to be launched, but it sure is an interesting place to visit.

Audi don't quite have anything new for the Indian market to show off at the Auto Expo this time round, but they do have a very interesting pavilion. Among a flurry of all of their existing models including the A4, A6, A8, Q5 and Q7 are the Audi TT and the R8 in brilliant new colours. But the central theme of Audi's display has more to do with where they're coming from and where they're heading. Starting off with a whole lot of nostalgia is the magnificent Audi Front 225 Roadster from 1935 celebrating the theme of the Audi stall - 100 years of Vorsprung durch Technik at Audi. Bringing things to the present era is the fabulous R8 sports car and giving crowds a taste of the future from the German marque is the Audi Sportback concept - showed off for the first time in Asia at the auto Expo. The Sportback is powered by a 3 litre V6 TDI engine giving it blistering performance - 0-100km/h in less than 7 seconds and a top speed of 245 km/h! But all that doesn't quite hamper on the fuel efficienct front - at 5.9 litres per 100km, the Sportback is highly efficient too!

That's not all though - after all it wouldn't be a true celebration of 100 years of the brand if their customers weren't getting much out of it, would it? Well, there are quite a few initiatives outlined by Audi for that very purpose. First off, the monstrous Q7 gets an all-new engine option - a massively powerful 4.2 litre TDI unit that makes it the most powerful diesel SUV available in India. The A6 also gets a limited edition in the form of the 2.7 TDI at a throw-away price of just Rs 37 lakh! Apart from that, Audi also plans to start the production of the Q5 in India in 2010.
