Audi announced today that its latest A4 2.0 TDI e will be available starting in early June. The new vehicle is equipped with 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine connected to a 6-speed manual transmission and delivers an impressive fuel consumption: 4.6 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (51.13 miles per U.S. gallon).

It consequently emits a mere 119 grams of CO2 per kilometer (191.51 grams per mile), which according to the manufacturer it is the best value of any vehicle in its class. The ‘e’ model has 136 bhp (100 kW) and sprints from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.5 seconds while the top speed is limited at 215 km/h (133 mph).

Wagonistas, your chariot has arrived. Audi A4 has debuted in Geneva. The estate version of the A4 is nearly identical to the sedan from the B-pillar forward, but now features 50-cubic feet of cargo capacity out back. An optional power liftgate is available and the load floor is reversible if you happen to be toting a set of used wheels in the trunk and the mat is coated in brake dust. Overall, the Avant gains about five inches in length, but is almost ten-percent lighter than the outgoing model.

Although powerplant details are scarce, those of us in the States will be stuck with the 2.0-liter TFSI mill, while sedan buyers get a choice of either the four-cylinder or the 3.2-liter V6.

For the new Audi A5 + S5 Cabriolet the VW / Audi specialist B&B, based in Siegen / Germany has a wide tuning program finished, which allows the strongest Audi A5 Cabriolet with a 3.0TFSI engine to reach up to 415 hp and 520 Nm. For this a new developed sport exhaust system will be installed, which decrease the exhaust gas back pressure and the temperature of the exhaust gas. In association with an optimized airflow and re-balanced engine electronics with slightly increased boost pressure the achievement potential is as high as in actual sport cars - in addition the build in speed limit will be removed and the new residual speed is up to 285 km/h.

The A5 Cabriolet 3.0TDI will reach up to 325 hp and 640 Nm. The three stages of the tuning program for the A5 3.0TDI starts with an electronics change and a slightly increased boost pressure of 0.15bar, this let the engine reach 280 hp and 585 Nm for EUR 1.198,-. The second electronic optimization for EUR 1.298,- reach 300 hp and 600 Nm. Due to special unit-injector elements in addition to changes to the suction pipe, the airflow and the air cooling system this engine for EUR 3.950,- will reach 325 hp and 640 Nm.

The first stage of the four-staged tuning program for the A5 2.0TFSI starts with an electronics change and a slightly increased boost pressure to let the 2.0 ltr engine for only EUR 998,- reach 250 hp and 400 Nm. In stages of 260 and 295 hp the 2.0TFSI engine reach at stage four 310 hp and 465 Nm. This performance is reached by installing a special turbo charger and changed airflow systems in addition to a special air cooling system. To pull down the exhaust gas pressure, B&B will install a sport exhaust system with a special intermediate exhaust pipe and high performance catalyst. Finally the ignition map will be recoded.

For the Audi A5 Cabriolet with the new 2.0TDI Common-Rail engine with 170 hp/ 350 Nm are also several tuning stages possible. The first stage increase the engine performance to 200 hp and 400 Nm. The second stage let the engine reach 220 hp and 420 Nm. The prices start at EUR 1.198,-

To advance the stability at fast cornering and high highway speeds B&B install a special adjustable suspension, which is possible as comfort or sport version and which is adjustable in height by up to 40 mm. In combination with the B10 and B12 wheel set with a size of 9"x20" and a maximum tire equipment of 255/30-20 a higher cornering speed will be reached and in addition a better handling. Also new 40 mm suspension plumes and different exhaust silencer are available. A new aerodynamic program with shapely exhaust-pipe end in "RS-Style" rounds up the exclusive external of the Audi A5 Cabriolet.

Stunning new open-air R8 helps to inaugurate world's largest Audi Centre in London

The conversion process in the striking new soft-top is typically quick and easy, the electrohydraulically controlled hood opening and closing at the touch of a button in 19 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph. When lowering it folds like a Z beneath the automatically activated cover of its storage compartment above the ten cylinder engine.

Unique all-LED headlights
Standard equipment for the R8 Spyder includes all-LED headlights - a world first for Audi in the R8 V10 - and inside an extended leather package featuring Fine Nappa leather, the Audi Music Interface iPod connection system (or a CD changer as required) linked to a Bang & Olufsen sound system, heated seats, DVD satellite navigation and unique new seatbelt-mounted microphones which make it possible to talk on the phone even with the top down on the motorway.

Like its Coupe relative the Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro, which was developed in cooperation with quattro GmbH, delivers absolutely uncompromising performance. The naturally aspirated V10 engine, much of which is hand-built, produces 530 Nm (390.91 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm and peak output of 525PS at 8,000 rpm as it revs freely to its 8,700 rpm limit.

Performance reflects this awesome potential: 0 - 62mph in 4.1 seconds; 0 - 124mph in 12.7 seconds; a top speed of 194mph for the six-speed manual version - all delivered with a heady ten-cylinder soundtrack that is of course even easier to savour in this open-top model.

Handling is optimized by quattro permanent all-wheel drive that distributes power to all four wheels with a heavy rear bias, and by Audi magnetic ride, which uses magnetic fields in the shock absorbers to adjust their response to road conditions within milliseconds and adapt to the driver's style.

The limelight is likely to be stolen from the beautiful new open-top to a certain extent by the building that will house it for its UK debut. West London Audi - the world's largest Audi Centre - is the result of an investment of six years and £45 million by Audi UK, and will house up to 116 display cars on three of the seven storeys that make up its 190,000 square-foot ‘footprint'. Many of the cars on display from the now 33-strong Audi model range will be visible from the elevated section of the M4 which flanks the imposing new London landmark.

The highly distinctive new Centre will be operated by the Sytner Group, and will be staffed by around 100 personnel. Within 12 months of the doors officially opening to the public on Monday October 19, approximately 30,000 customers are expected to have passed through its doors.

2010 Audi Q5 Hybrid Crossover SUV

DETROIT--Audi will offer a hybrid version of its Q5 crossover in the United States starting in late 2010, says Wolfgang Hatz, head of power-train development for the Volkswagen group.

In an interview last week at the auto show, Hatz said Audi must offer a hybrid model to compete with rival vehicles that already offer the technology, such as the Lexus RX 400h. The BMW X6 will be offered as a hybrid late this year, and Mercedes plans to roll out a hybrid in each of its major models starting with the S400 hybrid this year.

But Hatz said he thinks the greatest potential lies in diesel.

The Audi TT Forza Motorsport Edition is a special car that will commemorate the release of the game Forza Motorsport 3. The vehicle, which was already amazing, will be branded with the Forza logo in several places. Polish gaming blog Gamekaze has pictures of this lovely vehicle, showing the logo placement.

This collaboration between Audi and Microsoft also gives car owners another bonus: the game itself. In the trunk they'll find a Xbox Elite 120GB and a copy of Forza Motorsport 3. Forza keychain? Why not?

This is lovely. And I need a new car. I'd have to ask the big robot in the sky for a bit of a raise, as TTs go for about $37k. I might as well give up hope, as they only made twenty of these special cars anyway.

Large limousines often suffer from a lack of sportiness, and their ex-works image isn't especially "wiry”. This is why tuning specialist RDX RACEDESIGN took on the Audi A8 D2, and with the help of an aerodynamic kit, it’s bringing out the dreadnought’s sporty potential.

In the front end, a RDX RACEDESIGN front bumper spoiler (EUR 599) – intended for usage with a current single-frame grille (also available from RDX RACEDESIGN for EUR 149) – including a bonnet cowl, makes for a "mean look” in the style of the current model, giving others a real shock in the rear view mirror when the facelifted old A8 appears. The much sportier and more individual look is further enhanced by original Audi S6 daytime running lights, which can be fitted left and right in the air intakes. For the air intakes, RDX RACEDESIGN also offers additional grille attachments. Customers can choose between four different grille designs ("silver" design included free of charge). "Turbo-Style” side skirts (batch price EUR 129.95) provide for a lower appearance and a uniform progression of the front spoiler design. In the rear end a RDX RACEDESIGN rear bumper (EUR 299) provides for an especially muscular appearance. It is delivered upon request with four kinds of grille attachments (available here in "silver" design free of charge). The diffuser section is likewise perfect for contrast color painting. The rear bumper is delivered without exhaust tailpipe extensions. Openings can be cut as desired to one’s own exhaust systems and perfectly adapted to individual needs.

German tuner ABT Sportsline released some sketches of their upcoming modifications to the Audi R8. Performance enhancements include adding 110 horsepower to the already powerful 420 horsepower 4.2L V8, bringing the total to 530 via a supercharger.

When Audi rolled out the stunning e-Tron recently at the Frankfurt Auto Show, very few thought that it would see the light of production. Nor did most people realize that the e-Tron’s underpinnings would be based on a completely unknown Audi sportscar. But they were, and the new sportscar will be called the R4. As the name implies, it’s like an R8, only smaller. So you might want to look at these developments this way: The e-Tron is an eco-bent halo car, and the R4 is its “normal” engined variant.

The R4 will be a junior version of the R8, sort of like midget racers were to full-blown Indy roadsters back in the 50s. To go with its diminutive scale, the R4 will feature a set of drivetrains different from its R8 big brother (although the idea of squeezing that V10 from the R8 into the R4 does have a certain appeal). The top-of-the-line model will feature the e-Tron’s all-electric setup.



Audi’s American execs said to expect working prototypes of the electric R4 in two years’ time and an on-sale date in late 2012. The electric model will be the high-end of the engine options and the Audi R4 lineup will round out with engines from the current TT. The 2.5-liter turbo five-cylinder in the TT-RS is a likely choice. That plant puts out a respectable 335 horsepower and there’s also the 2.0-liter, 265-hp four-cylinder from the TTS as an option for the R4.

It’s also worth noting now that the machinations are over, and corporate parent VW now controls Porsche, it is likely that the R4 is expected to share a platform with the next-gen Porsche Boxster. Both coupe
and targa versions of the R4 are expected.

In short this is good news. Impressive as the R8 is, it’s also a six-figure car. Impressive styling and performance, to be sure, but also an impressive bottom line. If Audi engineers the R4 right (and there’s no reason why they wouldn’t at the this point) it could be a very usable “middle ground”.

At a mid level we see naturally aspirated V6 coming in, 3.0-litre size and making 265hp (195kW) and 330Nm of torque.

For those who love their open-sky driving as much as change in their pocket, Audi is making available two turbo diesels. Both V6 configured, the two are expectedly thriftier than their petrol counterparts. They are listed as a 2.7-litre TDI producing 190hp (140kW) and 400Nm, returning 6.3-litres per 100km, and the 3.0-litre TDI producing 240hp (176kW) and 500Nm of torque.

Top of the range, for now, at least until RS5 Cabriolet bares its teeth, is the S5 Cabriolet. True as predicted it features Audi’s new 3.0-litre supercharged V6 with power figures of 333hp (245kW) and 440Nm. Audi says it will run from standstill to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds, yet retain an average fuel consumption figure of 9.6 litres/100km. Three transmissions come with the A5 range; standard 6-speed manual, infinitely-geared Multitronic and seven-speed double-clutch S tronic, depending on the model.

The A5 and S5 Cabriolet won’t be seen stateside until the New York auto show at the earliest, with the world premiere scheduled for early March at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. The cars are scheduled to arrive in dealer showrooms in the fall 2009 with pricing to come later, though the A5 Cab at least should not be substantially higher than the $40,750 entry price for an A4 Cabriolet.

Audi brings its second diesel model to market next month as part of the 2010 A3 line, the five-door hatchback the company introduced in the U.S. market in 2005.

The A3 TDI uses the same clean-diesel engine as the popular Volkswagen Jetta sedan and SportWagen TDI models. It joins the midsize Q7 TDI sport utility vehicle to give consumers two diesel choices from Audi, the upscale brand of Germany's Volkswagen.

Prices for the A3 TDI model begin at $29,950 (plus $825 freight). This vehicle is built on the same architecture as the Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit and the Audi TT coupe, and has been promoted by Audi as a TT with four doors (it actually has five, if you count the flip-up tailgate that allows access to the cargo area).

The Q7 TDI model was introduced earlier this year as a 2009 model. Both vehicles have new clean-diesel engines that offer 30 percent better fuel economy and a 20 percent reduction in the emissions of so-called greenhouse gases than gasoline engines of similar size, Audi says.

As for the A3 TDI, it has the same styling and offers the same amenities that come in the gasoline-powered versions of this car. Gas models begin at $27,270 (plus freight), so there essentially is a $2,680 premium to get the diesel engine.

But the fuel economy is the selling point. The TDI model is EPA rated at 30 mpg city/42 highway, which is better than that of several gasoline-electric hybrids — many of which cost even more to start with.

For instance, the new Lexus HS 250h, which is of similar size and has about the same amenities, starts at $34,200, and the EPA mileage is 35 city/34 highway.

New federal energy tax credits are available on clean-diesel vehicles, ranging from $900 to $1,800, depending on the model.

Standard on the A3 TDI are features such as power windows/mirrors/door locks with remote, lighted vanity mirrors, leather seats, cargo-net map pockets on the backs of the front seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat and back-seat armrest with dual cup holders.

Options include the Audi navigation system, a Bluetooth phone connection, a music interface for iPods and other devices, a Bose premium audio system and the Titanium Package, which adds dark-gray wheels and a black grille, premium leather seats, wood interior trim, rain and light sensors, auto-dimming exterior and interior mirrors, and LED daytime running lights.

The diesel engine cranks out 140 horsepower and 236 foot-pounds of torque.

This vehicle is among a spate of new diesel cars and sport utility vehicles available in the United States, all of which come from Germany.

The argument in favor of diesel-powered vehicles is that they offer fuel economy approaching — and in some cases exceeding — that of many gasoline-electric hybrids. Yet they generally cost less than hybrids and don't need all of the expensive technology that goes into the gasoline-electric models, including battery packs that can cost thousands of dollars to replace.

Although about half of all new vehicles sold in Europe are powered by diesel engines, they haven't been popular with American consumers in the past. That's because consumers here have been turned off by the black exhaust smoke and engine noise they have associated with diesels.

But the new clean-diesel technology eliminates the smoke and most of the noise from these engines, making them more palatable to American drivers.

The A3 TDI and other new diesel models also meet federal Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle smog standards, which allow them to be sold even in California, which in the past has barred most diesel vehicles.

While the U.S. automakers offer diesel engines in their heavy-duty pickups, they are not yet available in any of their cars or SUVs. There are no diesels offered here from Japanese or South Korean automakers, either, although they do sell them in Europe and other world markets.

Other diesels available for 2010 in the U.S. market include two from BMW, the X5 sport activity vehicle and the 335d compact sedan; and three each from Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, including the Mercedes GL350, ML350 and R350 Bluetec SUV models; and the Volkswagen Jetta sedan and SportWagen TDI, as well as the Touareg TDI sport utility.

Mercedes also had a diesel sedan in the 2009 lineup, the E320 Bluetec. A redesigned model will arrive in March, the E350 Bluetec, as part of the complete makeover of the midsize E-class line for 2010.

Prices of the new diesels range from $22,970 (plus freight) for the VW Jetta sedan to $58,200 for the Mercedes GL350, with most of the SUVs in the low $50,000s.

Costs of most of the diesel models are not much different from those of the base gasoline versions. The premium charged for hybrids, however, can run from about $5,000 to more than $42,000 above gasoline versions.

The Camry Hybrid lists for $26,000, but other Camry models begin under $20,000.The most expensive hybrid is the Lexus LS 600h sedan at $106,000; the least expensive gasoline version of the LS is just less than $64,000.

The diesel Jetta sedan lists for about $2,200 more than a comparably equipped gasoline version. But the Mercedes GL320 Bluetec actually costs $1,000 less than the corresponding gasoline model.

Fuel economy, though, is why consumers are flocking to the diesels. Among the SUVs, the Audi Q7, which shares much of its architecture with the VW Touareg diesel, has EPA ratings of 17 city/25 highway, compared with 13/18 for the V-8 gasoline-powered version.
